The other day I was in my office at home and heard Kyler walk in. He was quiet and I didn’t turn away from my computer right away to see him… until I heard him… eating an apple!
I had never seen Kyler eat an apple that wasn’t sliced before. I’m still not sure how exactly he got it, or how he learned how to eat it since we almost always slice it – even when we eat apples. As you can see, he did just fine!
I took this video about 3 weekends ago. It’s surprisingly typical of what a Saturday afternoon might be like around the house.
Kyler loves music. Since the day we brought him home, he’s had an old iPod playing in his room non-stop – even at night while he sleeps. Its no surprise then that when a good song comes on the playlist he’s just got to stop everything (sometimes including getting dressed) and rock out.
Kyler has a bunch of words he says now – and the more important the word is to him, the more clearly he pronounces it. Ma-ma, da-da, “all done,” and cookie are four of his favorites. Perhaps the video below explains why he loves cookies so much!
Kyler has been walking all around the house in the last couple of weeks. He continues to get more comfortable with it and even since this video was taken (6 days ago) its become his preferred method of getting around. Oddly enough, he does his best walking when he has something else in his hands that he wants to carry around the house.
At the same time that he’s discovering his love of walking, he’s quickly found a new friend: Elmo. His favorite thing to do with Elmo is give out hugs which he has plenty to offer.
Yes, this is over a month old, but I took some time to make a one-year DVD for various family members and its amazing how much time building a DVD can consume. With that excuse out of the way, here’s a short recap of our day at the Apple Orchard with Kyler.
This has become somewhat of a tradition, as it was the first “outing” we took him on when last year just a few weeks after he was born. As you can see, he enjoyed it much more this time around.
Every night, Kyler has a set routine. It starts with dinner, part of which should be placed in your hair at some point. It then moves to expressing how unhappy you are with the idea of being cleaned up briefly. Of course, that almost always leads to the need for a “tubby,” which he likes very much. Even the end of the tubby is fun because he gets to see the baby in a mirror wrapped in a towel. Putting PJs is just OK, assuming he gets to crawl a bit. It ends with a couple of bedtime stories on dad’s lap. As you can see, he’s often very tired at this point, but loves to sit and listen.
We’ve recently discovered Kyler’s interest in cleaning. OK, its really more of an interest in playing with things that aren’t his toys – especially items that don’t look like ones he has any business playing with. Things like the swiffer, shower cleaner stick, etc. He even likes to help clean by sorting through junk mail (or as we call it: “Kyler’s mail.”)
We’ve got some footage of various cleaning activities, so I thought I’d throw together a quick video.
As a family that has a slight obsession with Dsney, the following clip should really come as no surprise to anyone.
Kyler took a moment from his busy schedule to put a “personal touch” on the birthday card he was sending to his Grandpa Hansen. As you can see, he thought hard about what he wanted to write, took special care to write it nicely and sealed it with a kiss. He was also quite upset at his parents when they took the card away before he could finish sending his love along with the card.
Happy Birthday “Grandpa Hansen!”
