One of my all-time favorite movies is “Back to the Future.” There’s a scene in the movie where Marty goes back in time and visits his mom’s house and sees his uncle Joey playing in a kids play-pen. He leans down and says “better get used to these bars, kid” knowing that his uncle would later end up in prison (which we learn at the start of the movie when his “present” mom plops down a cake and says “well, kids, your uncle Joey didn’t make parole again…”).

I couldn’t help but think of that scene when I saw this in the toy store the other day:

It is on sale, if you’re interested.

I prefer the “box” to lock up my kids.

Jeez - I got this for Nick, thinking he would like a larger play area than his playpen would afford. He hated it, naturally. But we did find it to be vey useful when we set it up to block him off from the kitchen in our open-style house. Not great as a baby-run, but good as an all-purpose gate.
