Last week, I tuned into The Apprentice only to see Charmaine go home (which she should have) as well as Tarek (which I don’t think was right… just yet). It just bugs me. Tarek probably had another episode left in him (maybe more) and I thought it made much more sense to keep him around to watch him implode or turn it all around.

But this week was worse. I tuned in to American Idol, a show that I FINALLY have gotten into (sure, it took 5 seasons, but whatever), only to see Chris Daughtry get kicked off. Here’s a reinactment of what I said when it happened:

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  Sunuva…. NOOOOOOO! Dammit. Nooo! What the … ugh… this sucks!”

The guy’s got a tremendous amount of talent and they got rid of him. Come on. Get rid of Elliot already. What is he doing around there anyway?! Sure, his voice is good, but he’s not “idol” quality.

So that’s it. I’m not watching any more reality TV. I will, however, mention Chris in my podcast.

One of my favorite TV shows is Arrested Development. I feel the need to do some grass-roots advertising for the show, so I’ve been telling people about it whenever I have the chance. One of the first people I told about the show was my boss, who caught up with every episode and has become quite the fan. So much so, that he reenacted one of my favorite scenes at the office today.

Arrested Development

The joke was worth every penny!

I just posted a rant about an Apple / GarageBand bug that I keep encountering when I produce my podcast. That prompted me to go and look at my podcast stats (which I’ve been doing daily up until a week ago).

204 people currently subscribe to the podcast. Not bad considering I’m in episode #6, haven’t published much about it, and continue to deal with a variety of technical issues (the GarageBand bug, mic problems, mixing problems, etc.). Don’t get me wrong, I think its a good podcast and I like the direction its going in … I’m just surprised (plesantly) that so many people are willing to tollerate these issues in the hopes that I get them ironed out soon.

But the stat that’s most interesting to me is the average drop-out rate. I recently saw an article that said most podcasters find that 60-80% of their audience subscribes to the podcast only to un-subscribe within 3-4 weeks. My drop-out rate? Less than 10%.

Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of people who joined late and haven’t hit their 3-4 week limit of what I have to offer.   ;-)

And here’s my Apprentice tip of the week: If you’re going to be on The Apprentice, DO schedule a meeting with the executives that will judge you. DO listen and write down everything they say. DO pay attention to things they repeat (those are the things YOU need to repeat in the task). DO NOT be late.

You wouldn’t think I’d have to say that, would you? Clearly, I do.

Here are a few other thoughts on Week 6 of The Apprentice:

  • Bryce was the first person to demonstrate any kind of team leadership skills, yet he was fired. The only reason I’m not completely upset about this is because he screwed up in not bringing Charmaine into the boardroom AND he didn’t even acknowledge the executives when they told the team they were late for the meeting.
  • Charmaine should have insisted that they go to the meeting immediately after getting off the phone. It was 30 minutes from the meeting time and being early is MUCH better than being late.
  • Tarek seemed to do well, or at least play well with others this week. He even seemed to have a bit of creativity… there might be hope for him yet.
  • I LOVED watching Bryce argue with Trump! Good TV.
  • Oh, Lenny knows what a jingle is! Everyone who’s been in the U.S. for 20 minutes knows what a jingle is!
  • I don’t have a problem with Lee putting his religious holidays ahead of The Apprentice. I DO have a problem with the fact that the discussion about him doing that caused Trump to use the phrase: “… I dig that.” — That ain’t right.
  • Sean! Now there’s a guy workin’ the Brittish accent!

Finally, I also want to mention that I would buy any CD of any music style as long as it was performed by either Chris Daughtry or Katharine McPhee (American Idol contestants). They rock!
